Ubuntu 10.04 - Boot performance with Intel SSD (gen-2)
Hardware
- Intel 80GB gen-2 SSD.
- Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU 750 @ 2.67GHz
Note! After reading about horrible ext4 performance regressions I decided to go for XFS instead.
Bootchart
The boot chart is generated after a plain install. No additional services has been installed or configuration options changed.
Wasted time? What about suspend / hibernate?
Canonical has been more or less obsessed about getting the boot time below 10 seconds. This time they've gotten very close. While this is nice and all, I don't really care whether the system boots in 5 or 45 seconds. I could always get my self a cup of coffee while waiting for the operating system to boot up. However what does take time is restoring the applications I was using (opening editors, folder and so on). Personally I think the time would be better spent on improving suspend / hibernate!
