Interrail 2010
I've just returned from this year's summer vacation. My girlfriend was kind enough to let me go on Interrail with a friend (I don't think that every girlfriend would do that)! This was the first time, but hopefully not the last time I've done Interrail. It's such a cool way to spend your vacation! We've seen a lot of different places and met a lot of really nice people during our two weeks traveling Europe.
Route
We didn't plan that much ahead, in the end this was the route we ended up traveling, 2850km according to Google Maps.
- Nice
- Pisa
- Firence
- Venice
- Vienna
- Bratislava
- Prague
- Nürnberg
- München
- Stuttgart
- Düsseldorf
Quick tips
- Don't plan too much ahead. One of the nicest things is being able to change your mind during the trip and go somewhere completely different. Perhaps you'll meet some cool people and travel with them for some days..? We booked the next youth hostel before we left the previous one. That worked out great for us (end of May, beginning of June). Make sure to book further in advance if there is something special going on in the place you're going to.
- Make sure that the youth hostel has a commonroom and serve beer! We had a lot of good times meeting new friends at the hostels common room over a beer or five.
- The Interrail ticket says you have to fill out the travellog before you board the train. It worked out just fine doing this after boarding. Most conductors don't even look at the travel log. We just snapped a picture of the train information and filled it in immediately after boarding. It's probably mostly for statistical purposes.
- And all those travel tips that applies no matter where you go, watch your money and so on and so forth.
